Agricultural monitoring is critical for growers, yet the existing systems produced data that was hard to work with. The goal of FitoWise was to build an AI-assisted, sensor-based solution delivering real-time data for better decisions. Over the course of the project we created an entirely new system that gives growers data they can actually read.

The problem
Accurately assessing the health of a crop — peppers, for instance — is a challenge for growers, and it usually demands continuous on-site inspection. That is time-consuming and hard to organize, so in many cases it simply does not happen. The question was clear: could we build a system that reduces that burden while still delivering reliable data for decisions?
FitoWise is a new module of the AgroSense system, built specifically for crop health monitoring. Building on the existing infrastructure, it offers an image-recognition approach: growers receive AI-evaluated data on the condition of their crops.
Traditional data collection methods are not only time-consuming but can also be imprecise, because the assessments are subjective. Quickly recognizing stress caused by weather, nutrient supply or pests is decisive for maximizing yield and optimizing production costs. What was needed was a system that not only senses those changes but converts them into comprehensible, immediately usable information.
The design process
In the early phase of development we mapped growers' needs through interviews. The feedback was unambiguous: they needed a module providing reliable crop health data they could look back over. The next step was designing the information architecture, which defined the structure of the new module and its points of connection to the AgroSense system.
The UI design was guided by the following principles:
- Minimal, uncluttered design for easy interpretation
- A legible interface for fast access to information
- Simple, intuitive navigation that keeps use fluid
- A visual language consistent with the other AgroSense modules
Key features
FitoWise supports growers in making effective decisions through several features that build on each other.
Crop health status
The system displays recorded crop health states and the plant's phenological phases on an interactive chart. Changes over time can be reviewed and tracked, with every chart tied to a specific area of a specific site. The system also computes a daily average from the previous day's readings, which speeds up decisions.
Image gallery
Linked to the chart is an image gallery holding every uploaded photo, so the condition of the crop is continuously documented. Images can be uploaded from a mobile device, including directly from the camera — straight from the growing tip.
Crop health value
The AI evaluates uploaded images automatically and determines the health status of the crop. Users can also adjust the AI-assigned values manually through a review process, so the data stays accurate and reliable — the human stays in the loop.
Summary
Introducing FitoWise is a significant step forward in agricultural monitoring: it converts unwieldy measurements into comprehensible data that supports decisions. The next step focuses on further development driven by user feedback — more precise analysis of the data and an expansion of the decision-support features.
